Capt Som Sekhar Mishra holds a Master (Foreign Going) CoC from India, BSc (Nautical Science) from Mumbai University, and a PGCBM from XLRI Jamshedpur. He has over 25 yeas of experience in Shipping & Port operations.
He spent the intial 15 years of his career sailing on various types of vessels including tankers, bulk carriers and very large ore carriers (VLOC). His last 3 sailing years were as Master on VLOC's. He has worked with The Shipping Corporation of India, UOSM (NYK GB) and Anglo Eastern.
In his time ashore Capt Som Sekhar Mishra has developed competencies in the areas of strategy, Shipping operations, logistics, contract management, statutory compliances, maritime sustainability, freight portfolio and risk management.
During this time he has worked with Visakha Container Terminal, Vishakhapatnam and Seaways Shipping and Logistics, Kolkata.
In his current tenure of last 8 years with Tata Steel, he has handled the Shipping Operations portfolio for Europe and India and the Outbound (export, coastal & inland waterways) freight portfolio for the India business. He was instrumental in formulation of Tata Steel's maritime sustainability policies and initiatives.
